About SUTPT 2012
The 3rd International Conference on Solar Updraft Tower Power Technology 2012(SUTPT 2012) will take place in Wuhan, China, October 26-28, 2012.
Solar Updraft Tower (also: Solar Chimney) Power Plants (SUTPPs) produce electric power from solar radiation. The working principle is simple: A huge tower in an arid area with sufficiently high solar irradiation is surrounded by a large glass roof, the collector. The warm air collected under the roof flows towards the tower because of buoyancy effect, and drives turbines connected to generators which create electric power. The natural fuel of SCPPs – solar irradiation – is carbon-free, inexhaustible, sustainable, costfree and practically unlimited. It is able to satisfy the power demand of mankind at present and in future.
The solar updraft tower (also: solar chimney) power technology is simple, robust, long lasting and economic. A SUTPP will provide electric power over many decades, up to 100 years. The feasibility of the SUTPP technology has been demonstrated successfully by the famous 1982 Manzanares Prototype and more recently by a number of project studies.
The aim of the conference is to bring together experts from all of the different fields involved to identify the state of the art in thermodynamics, fluid-mechanics, structural engineering, as well as in construction techniques, and in power-harvesting of the SCPP technology, in order to identify possibilities for further economic optimization.
After refereeing process, the selected excellent papers will be published on the Special Issue of Solar Energy(www.elsevier.com), the official journal of the International Solar Energy Society®, will be indexed in the major academic databases, including SCI, EI Compendex. Latest Impact Factor: 2.135 .
Other accepted papers will be published on international journal "Applied Mechanics and Materials" and will be indexed in the major academic databases, including EI Compendex, Thomson ISI (ISTP), and other indexing services. Trans Tech Publications will provide online camera-ready paper submission system to save time and decrease the publishing cycle. The full text is online available via platform www.scientific.net.
The organizers am planning to help to contact tourism companies with a possibility for an air plane travel to visit the Wuhai (Inner Mongolia) SUTPT prototype or Three Gorges Dam (Yichang, Hubei) for a day. After registering, the delegates will be requested to indicate if willing to have the tourisms and choose the tourist spots (Wuhai or Yichang).

2. If delegates have not submitted papers to the conference organizer, registration fees will be paid at a 20% discount .
3. If the length of the paper exceeds FIVE PAGES, the cost of EACH EXTRA PAGE is 300 Chinese Yuan or 50 US dollars.
4. Each paid registration covers only one paper; you can pay Extra Paper Charges (2100 Chinese Yuan or 350 US Dollars) for one more paper from the same first author who already has a paid registration.

Venue
The Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a national key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education of P. R. China, and is among the first Universities joining the national “211 Project” and “985 Project”. It was founded on May 26, 2000 as a result of the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Urban Construction Institute.
At present, the University has eleven disciplines: engineering, medicine, management, science, philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history and agriculture, offering a variety of degree programs, including 86 undergraduate programs, 303 graduate programs, 237 PhD programs. There are 31 post-doctoral research centers, 7 national key disciplines, 15 national key subdisciplines. HUST covers an area of over 1,153 acres with picturesque environment, elegant surroundings and has 72% greenery coverage, which has been honored as the “University in the Forest”. It offers its students and staff first-class logistic service, efficient network service and abundant library resources. The conference will take place in the HUST. Accommodation
Wuhan is situated in the middle of Hubei Province of China, lying between E113°41′ and E115°05′ Longitude and N29°58′ and N31°22′ Latitude, covering an area of 8494 square kilometers with a population of about 9.8 million. Wuhan is in the east of Jianghan Plain and it is the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and Hanshui River. The Yangtze River and Hanshui River divide Wuhan into three parts: Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang, which are generally known as Wuhan's Three Towns. From Wuhan you may reach some foreign countries such as Japan and ROK. Some of China's metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Xi'an are all within a circle around the center of Wuhan with the radius of 1000 km. Wuhan is the important strategic supporting point of Central China. It is easy to reach by plane, train or car. The HUST is located in Hongshan District of Wuhan City. Connections to the international airports of Tianhe can be made in less than two hour. The University can be reached from the Wuchang, Wuhan, and Hankou railway stations by taxi or bus.
A limited number of hotel rooms in the HUST International Academic Exchange Center have been secured for the conference participants. Reservations in the HUST International Academic Exchange Center can be made at special conference rates. Hotel rooms in the vicinity of the University are also available for the conference participants. All participants are asked to arrange their accommodations as soon as possible. Organization of the Text
Section Headings. The section headings are in boldface capital and lowercase letters. Second level headings are typed as part of the succeeding paragraph (like the subsection heading of this paragraph).

Page Numbers. Do not number your paper.

Tables. Tables (refer with: Table 1, Table 2, ...) should be presented as part of the text, but in such a way as to avoid confusion with the text. A descriptive title should be placed above each table. The caption should be self-contained and placed below or beside the table. Units in tables should be given in square brackets [meV]. If square brackets are not available, use curly {meV} or standard brackets (meV).
Special Signs. should always be written in with the fonts Times New Roman or Arial, especially also in the figures and tables.

Macros. Do not use any macros for the figures and tables. (We will not be able to convert such papers into our system)

Language. All text, figures and tables must be in English.

Figures. Figures (refer with: Fig. 1, Fig. 2, ...) also should be presented as part of the text, leaving enough space so that the capt¬ion will not be confused with the text. The caption should be self-contained and placed below or beside the figure. Generally, only original drawings or photographic reproductions are acceptable. Only very good photocopies are acceptable. Utmost care must be taken to insert the figures in correct alignment with the text. Half-tone pictures should be in the form of glossy prints. If possible, please include your figures as graphic images in the electronic version. For best quality the pictures should have a resolution of 300 dpi(dots per inch)-
Color figures are welcome for the online version of the journal. Generally, these figures will be reduced to black and white for the print version. The author should indicate on the checklist if he wishes to have them printed in full color and make the necessary payments in advance.

Equations. Equations (refer with: Eq. 1, Eq. 2, ...) should be indented 5 mm (0.2"). There should be one line of space above the equation and one line of space below it before the text continues. The equations have to be numbered sequentially, and the number put in parentheses at the right-hand edge of the text. Equations should be punctuated as if they were an ordinary part of the text. Punctuation appears after the equation but before the equation number, e.g.

Literature References
References are cited in the text just by square brackets [1]. (If square brackets are not available, slashes may be used instead, e.g. /2/.) Two or more references at a time may be put in one set of brackets [3,4]. 【本報訊】新華社呼和浩特二十七日消息:
內蒙古自治區科技人員近日在內蒙古西部沙漠中建成沙漠太陽能熱風發電站,將光伏發電和熱氣流發電技術結合在一起發電。
在內蒙古烏海市金沙灣,沙漠裡聳立的類似水塔和溫室大棚的塔筒和玻璃陽光房就是沙漠太陽能熱風發電站。目前一期項目建成並開始併網發電,裝機200千瓦的機組每年可以發電40萬千瓦時,可節約標準煤100噸,節水900噸。到2013年,三期工程全部建成後,裝機容量可以達到27.5兆瓦。
「這個項目只佔用沙漠和荒地,運行與維護也十分簡單,不會産生任何污染,環保性能極好,可以覆蓋大片的沙漠,可以有效抑制沙塵暴,對改良氣候有重要意義。」內蒙古科技大學教授、新能源發電領域專家魏毅立説。
目前,世界上太陽能發電主要有三種方式,即光伏發電、熱發電和熱氣流發電。沙漠太陽能熱風發電站就是利用太陽能産生熱氣流,帶動發電機發電。
這一係統發電的主要介質是沙漠中隨處可得的沙子,因為沙子是吸熱和儲能的材料。當太陽照射地面集熱棚時,棚中的沙地在溫室效應下産生熱空氣,從熱風通道進入塔筒,形成熱風,驅動安裝在熱風通道中的渦輪發電機發電。到了晚上,白天積聚在沙子中的熱能開始釋放出來,繼續推動渦輪機旋轉。
據了解,這套沙漠太陽能熱風發電站設備與其他熱氣流發電係統最大的不同是,增加了風門,在冬季太陽能不足的情況下可以用風力補充,利用太陽能和風能帶動機組同時發電,可以實現全年不間斷工作
